LA RESTAURANTS

My suggestions for Los Angeles are a bit quirky, and don’t include the higher-profile places in town that you probably already know about. LA has a vast and nearly endless supply of tasty restaurants, even – or perhaps especially – out in the San Gabriel Valley. Jonathan Gold (RIP) wrote everything important worth reading about the LA scene, so I won’t go on about any of it here.

SONORATOWN
A crazy popular downtown spot serving delicious carne asada and handmade tortillas

ROSE CAFÉ VENICE
Nice café, especially good in the morning

PIZZERIA MOZZA (go anyway)
One of the best pizza and other Italian food restaurants around

PETIT TROIS
Good classic French stuff from Ludo Lefebvre, who seems to be everywhere in LA nowadays

GISH BAC
Considered by many the best Oaxacan food in LA. Goat and lamb barbacoa, and mole negro are outstanding.  PARK’S BBQ
Koreatown winner

TEDDY’S RED TACOS
Venice and a taco truck

HOWLIN RAY’S (if you’re into Hot Chicken)
Chinatown’s Far East Plaza

GO GET ‘EM TIGER
Ate a delicious breakfast sausage sandwich multiple times at the E 3rd Street location. They ave multiple locations and I tired only the one on E 3rd Arts District

SAN GABRIEL VALLEY

MIAN (no website)

KANG KANG FOOD COURT

THE JOINT EATERY & SEAFOOD MARKET
Unusual place that combines a restaurant and serious fish market. Curiously, they have an aged-fish thing going on.
